| Yuneko Potoneko was born to poverty-stricken Elezen parents who died of illness when he was but an infant. He was then taken in by a kindly family of Lalafell and raised as the youngest of seven children. Yuneko would grow up somewhat normally with his new family—for a while, that is. Merely a few years later, at age eight, he would receive his first vision. He witnessed himself die gruesomely, falling in battle. Worse, he felt his own pain as he died. No one could make heads or tails of such an experience, especially not when it happened again, and again, and again. Shocked and traumatized by visions of his own death, Yuneko withdrew into himself. Although he maintained a cheerful facade and continued to help provide for his family as best he could, he would not make a close emotional connection for years afterwards. He saw himself as born to die, useful only in the ephemeral present. His terrible phantasms continue to plague him even now, and he still searches for a way to stop them. Eventually, he became an adventurer in order to provide for himself on his own, unable to handle living in one place surrounded by people who could not understand his haunted dreams. |
| Although Yuneko is proud and strong, he is also a coward. He is a wandering doctor and his ultimate goal is ever to help people, but his visions give him an over-inflated sense of danger and he is the type to flee rather than fight. He also has a somewhat off-putting personality; he is a constantly-smiling, somewhat slimy-feeling sort of fellow. Although he has good intentions, he usually seems like he might scam you out of your money, or your property, or your dignity… The glasses he constantly wears don’t help much, although he favors them for a rather benign purpose. Born blind in his left eye, it tends to drift around aimlessly rather than focus on a target. Yuneko knows that it can be upsetting to see, and thus he hides it behind his glasses. He copes with his poor vision and even worse depth perception with a combination of magic, when possible, and goggles engineered at the Skysteel Manufactory when magic is out of the question. Yuneko has quite a few self-destructive vices, chiefly smoking, and he favors white and red magics, though he is a fair shot with a gun when he wears his goggles. |
